PIN vs. Signature Debit

The impact of flattened debit interchange rates for PIN and signature transactions among the largest issuers, the elimination of issuer routing control and network exclusivity, along with the emerging network mandates pertaining to EMV in the United States have served to reignite the debate of signature debit vs. PIN debit.

 

As debit card portfolio economics become more strained and merchants begin the effort to upgrade terminals to support new payment forms, the time may have come for the U.S. market to decide in favor of one scheme over another.
