Debit Advisory Service: 2011 Outlook
Posted:
December 10, 2010
Author:
Mercator Research
Abstract:
It is very tempting to look at 2011 as the Durbin Amendment and simply leave it at that. The fact that debit card interchange is going to be regulated provides enough subject matter for this brief and many more like it. But that event, no matter how important, isn't the only dynamic in play. My go-to framework for trying to put the debit market into context has been to discuss the triangulation of innovation, the economy, and regulation - so that's how I'll approach this final Viewpoint of 2011 as well. As the great Bette Davis said, "Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy night."
