We are currently looking for new members of our team in the following areas: Custom Research & Consulting Manager The Consulting Manager is a member of Mercator’s consulting team. The Manager’s primary responsibility will be to provide direct support to the Managing Director of Custom Research & Consulting. There are three main areas of responsibility associated with this role: project management, business development, and analyst research support. Project Management (70% of effort) The Consulting Manager will lead teams of Mercator analysts to deliver market research and consulting projects. Mercator clients include leading payments companies, including card associations, issuers, payment IT vendors and merchants.
Specific project management activities include: * Create detailed project plans. This effort includes defining major milestones and due dates for project deliverables (both interim and final), working with the research team to identify analyst resources for each task and managing resources assigned to each project task. It also includes facilitating kick-off meetings and interim project update meetings to review the project as outlined in the proposal and confirm client expectations. * Maintain project status. This effort includes facilitating regular status meetings with the project teams to report on the progress of the project. The agenda will include a report on current activities, any schedule changes, and a report on any issues and the proposed resolution for those issues. * Develop project deliverables. The Consulting Manager is expected to take an active role in the development of project deliverables. This involves working closely with the project team to develop any required research instruments, to review analysis of primary data, to construct and take ownership of revision control for project deliverables, to provide quality assurance reviews of all outbound materials and to facilitate reviewing deliverables with the client. Business Development (20% of effort) The Consulting Manager is expected to contribute to the development of the Mercator consulting business plan and support the Managing Director and the Mercator sales team in the execution of the plan.
Specific business development activities include: * Support the sales pipeline with director and with sales team. This effort includes identifying key accounts, developing account plans with the sales team, providing support during sales calls and monitoring results against the plan. * Lead proposal efforts for qualified prospects. This effort includes leading proposal writing activities using the Mercator proposal templates and, in particular for each project, the effort includes documenting project scope, articulating client requirements, crafting project methodology, project timeline development, and proposal deliverable oversight. * Building client relationships. Develop and manage long-term consulting relationships with assigned clients, including identifying repeat engagement opportunities. Analyst Research Support (10% of effort) The Consulting Manager will support analysts engaged in project work. This support will vary from project to project, but will typically include: * Helping conduct secondary market research through web searches and other means * Building analytical models and evaluation frameworks under the guidance of the analyst * Helping develop surveys and interview guides for use during project engagements * Assembling pools of primary research candidates by qualifying industry participants, gathering contact information, and recruiting their participation in Mercator primary research efforts. Qualifications Qualified candidates for this position will: * have strong written communications skills, presentation / PowerPoint skills, and spreadsheet / quantitative skills
* be a good listener and be able to ask the right questions * be able to work independently and to deadline
* be comfortable working with senior client management
* be a team player
* have 3-5 years of experience in the financial services industry (payments industry experience a plus) / management consulting background
* foreign language skills / international experience a plus
